(About the book)

TRUMP AND THE MAGA MOVEMENT AS ANTICHRIST:

Recognizing the Archetype of Evil in Our Time

Matthew Fox, Foreword by Caroline Myss, Afterword by Andrew Harvey

Every day in America, we debate events, motives, and politics, yet often lack the imagination to perceive and name what often lurks within: evil.

Matthew Fox, one of our nation's most evocative theologians, argues that Christianity's great symbols, stories, and works of sacred art were never meant merely to describe evil. They were meant to train us—to see how evil disguises itself, seduces, and leaves chaos in its wake.

Trump and the MAGA Movement as Antichrist begins with Fox's startling encounter inside a cathedral at Orvieto, Italy, where Luca Signorelli's monumental fresco “The Preaching and Deeds of the Antichrist” stopped him in his tracks. Without seeing the title, his first instinct was, “It feels like Donald Trump.”

That moment launches an expressive exploration of how evil captivates ordinary people, glorifies power, and turns communities against themselves. Drawing on Sigmund Freud, Carl Jung, Thomas Aquinas, Meister Eckhart, and Hildegard of Bingen, Fox reveals the Antichrist as a timeless, powerful archetype for understanding how evil behaves.

Illustrated with color reproductions of masterpieces by Signorelli, Fra Angelico, and Hildegard of Bingen, the book also presents Christ as the opposing archetype of compassion, truth, shared dignity, creativity, and democracy. This is a prophetic guide to discerning evil and embracing the light in our own time.

Praise for Trump and MAGA Movement as Antichrist and Matthew Fox

“Matthew Fox has never been afraid to reclaim the deepest treasures of the Christian tradition from those who would use them to dominate, exclude, and destroy. In Trump and the MAGA Movement as Anti-Christ, he does so again, retrieving the ancient archetype of the Anti-Christ not as an instrument of apocalyptic fear, but as a way of naming what happens when power becomes untethered from truth, compassion, justice, and reverence for life. This is a provocative book because these are times that demand moral clarity.

Fox reminds us that authoritarianism is never merely a political problem. It is a spiritual crisis, revealing what we worship, what we fear, and what we are willing to sacrifice for the promise of power and security. Whether or not readers are initially comfortable with the language of “Anti-Christ,” they should wrestle seriously with the questions Fox raises. What does faithful resistance require when cruelty becomes normalized, truth becomes expendable, and Christianity itself is enlisted in service to domination? Matthew Fox has given us a fierce and necessary book for anyone seeking the courage to recognize the forces shaping our time...and to choose another way.” --Rev. Cameron Trimble, author of Searching for the Sacred

"Of all the great and pioneering works Matthew Fox has graced us with over five decades of prophetic creativity as our greatest living Christian theologian, this may be the most important. It is certainly the bravest, the riskiest, and the most affronting to anyone who doubts the existence and terrible power of evil in our expanding global dark night."  —Andrew Harvey, scholar and teacher of mystic traditions, and author of The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying

"Whatever your religious persuasion, Matthew's new book invites you to see ancient political and spiritual wisdom applied to today's wild world." —Brian D. McLaren, author of Do I Stay Christian and Life After Doom

"Read this book with an open mind. Good and evil are real forces in our world."  —Caroline Myss, author of The New York Times bestseller Anatomy of the Spirit

“Matthew Fox's exegesis on Donald Trump as a form of Antichrist is a lively and fascinating journey into the forces of evil and into the warped mind of the world leader who is their incarnation.”  —Nicholas Fox Weber, author of Freud's Trip to Orvieto and biographies of Le Corbusier and Mondrian

“Matthew Fox might well be the most creative, the most comprehensive, surely the most challenging religious-spiritual teacher in America.”  —Thomas Berry, author of The Great Work, The Dream of the Earth, and The Universe Story
